Miami Beach, FL – June 17, 2015 – There’s nothing better than getting all dolled up and enjoying a morning of good eats and talking all things fashion. Cecconi’s ever popular Fashion for Breakfast series was at it again last week, bringing out Kerry Pieri, Digital Fashion & Features Director at Harper’s BAZAAR, and Shira Suveyke, VP of Global Buying at TheOutnet.com for an intimate conversation. Guests listened in as moderator Iman Hasan guided the ladies through a chat about high summer trends, as well as a presentation showcase of 17 exclusive, limited-edition designer pieces that are available on The Outnet this June.

Before the chat, World Red Eye caught up with Kerry Pieri who gave us an inside look as to what her position at the magazine is like, as well as some of the latest trends we can expect for this upcoming summer season.

2-Iman Hasan, Kerry Pieri, & Shira Suveyke

Iman Hasan, Kerry Pieri, & Shira Suveyke

Miami does a great job of mastering summer trends, but I think it’s really all about light fabrications.

Isabella Ramos, Andres Sosa, & Ivian Sarcos

WRE: Being the Digital Fashion & Features Director at Harper’s BAZAAR is a dream job for many in the fashion industry, how did you get your start?

KP: Originally I started out in broadcast and prior to this position at Harper’s BAZAAR I was the editorial director of StyleCaster, a fashion based start up. StyleCaster was a great place to begin because it allowed me to get my foot in the door and get to know how the industry works, as well as establish some great contacts. Both jobs really helped give me a varied media background and establish a great foundation for my digital fashion & features position. Digital media is always different, one minute you are interviewing someone the next minute you are helping style a shoot or creative directing. I wear a lot of hats so I think that I accidentally set myself up perfectly for this position.

WRE: What are some major trends we can expect this Summer?

KP:  Miami does a great job of mastering summer trends, but I think it’s really so much about light fabrications. The off-the-shoulder look is huge right now. I think crochet and lace just look really beautiful and are something you need to invest in, you know, cheap lace is never going to work. The 70’s trend is still going strong; anything flowing and has some air beneath it can really make you look glamorous. As far as swim trends, I think the maillot is still going strong. It’s very flattering and designers are having a lot of fun with it.

WRE: Describe your personal style in 3 words.

KP:  I would say that my style is streamlined, fun, and creative.

WRE: Putting all seasons aside, what are some staple items every girl needs to have in their closet?

KP: I think it’s important to have a pair of jeans that you love and a jacket. The jacket doesn’t need to be a blazer, but one that you feel really great in. A blouse will take you miles. I’m a huge proponent of the white t-shirt, as well as one dress that you really can wear anywhere.

WRE: You recently did a piece on this, but can you tell us a bit more on how one can take the perfect ‘fashion vacation Instagram’?

KP: It was a little tongue in cheek, but was meant to be light-hearted and funny. Instagram does seem to be taking over, and as some would say, you’re only as good as your Instagram. But you know, I think in all good fun it starts with the look, and once you’re in a beautiful location, just really try and capture that with as much fun and creativity as you can. Of course, you also make sure to get your good angles.

WRE: How many vacation Instagram’s are too many?

KP: I think it’s important to not do more than one ‘selfie’ a day. People are going to start to hate you haha.

WRE: What’s your must-have travel accessory?

KP: A hat. I have this one, it’s a baseball hat that says “love” backwards on it and it’s taken me so far because you can pack it everywhere, and is always helpful when you need to cover your face.

Miami, FL – June 23, 2015 – Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, made a major splash here in Miami as he announced that Virgin Cruises has selected PortMiami as the home port for its first cruise ship that will set sail in 2020. He also revealed Virgin Cruises has signed a binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri for three new mid-size ships. Emerging through a cloud of iconic Virgin red smoke, Branson flew across Miami’s Biscayne Bay via helicopter landing at Museum Park. Joined by Virgin Cruises’ President and CEO Tom McAlpin, the two raised a Virgin Cruises flag to mark the cruise line’s official arrival in Miami. This is a very exciting day for Virgin and travelers around the globe,” said Branson. “We now have the right partners in place to build a world-class cruise line that will redefine the cruising experience for good. The Virgin Cruises approach will appeal to cruisers and non-cruisers alike, and we look forward to being in Miami and delivering an experience for people who want a new way to cruise.” Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez noted, “With the largest cruise port in the world, Miami is an exciting city that offers companies and brands an excellent environment for business. We are delighted to be selected by Virgin Cruises as their home port and I can’t wait to see their beautiful ships become part of Miami’s spectacular skyline.”

Virgin Cruises’ three new mid-size ships, of about 110,000 gross tons each, are slated for delivery in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Each ship will feature 1,430 guest cabins to host more than 2,800 guests. There also will be 1,150 crew on board to deliver the famed Virgin customer service. Embarking from PortMiami, Virgin Cruises plans to offer a range of seven-day Caribbean itineraries, with a Sunday sail date. “Virgin is a customer built brand that listens carefully to what customers want and then works hard to deliver for them. We are committed to making waves in the cruise industry, and partnering with Fincantieri and PortMiami sets Virgin Cruises up to do just that,” said McAlpin. “Today’s announcement brings together important ingredients in our future success — Miami’s vibrant culture paired with the excellent Port infrastructure and Port team; and Fincantieri’s expertise in prototyping, their creativity and understanding of our vision.” Customers are invited to join the journey by visiting www.virgincruises.com to share their ideas on what the new cruise line can do to deliver an incredible experience at sea.

The Ronald McDonald House

1-DSCA6164-Edit

Miami, FL – July 1, 2015 – Most people are familiar with McDonald’s, but what some may not know is that the famed hamburger joint, along with the assistance of volunteers, has been actively lending a home to critically ill children and their families through the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida. In 1984, Ronald McDonald House Charities were officially established as a world-wide non profit organization in memory of McDonald’s founder, Ray Kroc, a strong advocate for children. Currently, there are now more than 310 Houses throughout the world which provide a comfortable and supportive living environment for over 6,000 families every night. Each House is independently operated by a local board of trustees and is responsible for their own fundraising. South Florida currently has two houses. The Miami house helps thirty-one families at a time. The house in Fort Lauderdale assists sixteen families.

3.5-DSCA6218-Edit

4-DSCA6195-Edit

Much of Ronald McDonald House’s success is based on the hard work and charitable acts of many philanthropic individuals. You may have seen her jetting around town attending the latest charity functions, but for Miami philanthropist, Linda Levy Goldberg, this is simply all in a days work. Many years ago, Levy Goldberg, was invited by the former director, Norma Jean Ober, to visit the Ronald McDonald House. When she saw what the families were going through, she was in shock. Not long after, she was asked to help out and create a fundraiser, and she couldn’t say no.

5-DSCA6202-Edit

Levy Goldberg has been a co-chairman of the Twelve Good Men luncheon for twenty-five years. The luncheon, benefitting the Ronald McDonald House, is to honor twelve outstanding men in the community who give themselves and their time to local charities every year. Fortunately, past honorees still stay actively involved and support the luncheon each and every year. On March 9th 2016, Levy Goldberg along with fellow co-chairs will be hosting the Twelve Good Men luncheon at the Coral Gable Country Club.

6-Linda Levy Goldberg & friend1-3-Edit

Linda Levy Goldberg

“Working with the Ronald McDonald House has taught me to always be grateful because life is very fragile and there is nothing more important than health and family.” says Levy Goldberg. “Every time I go to the Ronald McDonald House I am so inspired by the faith, grace, and hope that the families have that stay at the Ronald McDonald House.” Dealing with the life threatening illness of a child can be beyond heart breaking. Many children that come to stay at the Ronald McDonald House are dealing with multiple organ transplants, Leukemia, recovering from accidents and more. In times of need it can be extremely hard for a family to cope with such a travesty and can often feel very alone. Fortunately, the families who are staying at the house are very supportive of each other and the comforts of the House such as cooking facilities, lounge areas and playroom all help to make their hard time a little easier. “I was at a meeting at the House once and a wonderful smell was coming from one of the kitchens,” explained Levy Goldberg. “A woman who had previously stayed at the Ronald McDonald House with her son, had come back to make a delicious paella for all of the people still at the house. She was a humble woman and it was such a beautiful and generous gesture.”

Families with children at the house are critically or chronically ill and travel to South Florida looking for the best medical care for their child. The Ronald McDonald House assists families with newborn children up to twenty-one years old with any type of pediatric condition. The average length of stay at the Miami House is forty five days. The purpose of the house is for families to be together and interact with others in similar or worse conditions. Children who are outpatients also can stay at the house, and have a lot of fun activities scheduled on a daily basis to keep their minds away from their illnesses.

9-DSCA4747-3-Edit

10-DSCA4918-3-Edit

People may say that they are too busy, or don’t have the time to lend a helping hand but what many don’t realize is that a little effort can go a long way. “You wouldn’t decide to start running and run a marathon the next day, it is the same way with volunteering,” exclaims Levy Goldberg. “You can give a few hours a month and start from there.” It is as simple as contacting the organization and finding out how you can help. At the Ronald McDonald House volunteers, corporations, organizations and even individuals come in and host activities for the kids. These kinds of activities also helps the families staying there know other people out there care.

11-DSCA4940-3-Edit

12-DSCA4962-3-Edit

The activities scheduled at the Ronald McDonald House are all family oriented. Activities can range from field trips to different South Florida spots, arts and crafts, yoga, haircuts, makeovers for mothers, breakfast, lunch or dinner and are all provided by the community. Volunteers range from elementary children to adults and can assist anywhere from the office, special events, cooking for the families, and maintenance items. Being a volunteer is one of the greatest ways to give back to our community. While it is wonderful to give monetary donations, giving back a little of your time can impact so many people in truly meaningful ways. Whether you have one hour of your time to donate or twenty, any time donated is impactful.

Monetary donations are essential for house operations which can include everything from the electrical bill to general maintenance. Any amount donated is always appreciated. Items from the Ronald McDonald House Miami wish list include paper towels, trash bags, and cleaning products. All items donated must be new for the health and safety of the families staying at the house.

18-DSCA6077-Edit

19-DSCA6104-Edit

As the word spreads, more and more families are eager to stay and receive assistance from the house. The Ronald McDonald House plans to expand to be able to assist more families, as there is currently a waiting list at both Miami-Dade and Fort Lauderdale facilities. There is a real need for more space; the house is a community that families can rely for emotional support and a place where they do not have to worry where are they going to eat, sleep or do laundry. Families of sick children can always count on the Ronald McDonald House. Excitingly, there is now plans to open another house within the next two years.

Miami Beach, FL – July 17-19, 2015 – When Spanish explorers set out in search of the fountain of youth in Florida in the fifteenth century, we believe they would have found what they were looking for had they had the chance to experience a new groundbreaking product called RxGenesys. Co-founders Kirsty Barany and husband Dr. Jeffrey Gibson introduced RxGenesys to the world during Swim Week, where a culture obsessed with youth and beauty literally soaked up the healing powers of their new beauty system. Brand ambassador, Rachel Mortensen was on site to educate attendees about the technology and to be a walking advertisement for the results. While guests relaxed in the Bungalow “spa” and received mini treatments and assessments from Dr. Gibson, guests downstairs were able to get pampered and treated with other amazing products and experiences. Gee Beauty was on site for brows and bronzing, GLAMSQUAD offered the best Swim Week braids and beach waves, Ginny Bakes provided healthy snacks and Perrier was on ice to refresh and rehydrate. As the morning turned into afternoon, Whispering Angel kept every glass filled with the perfect Summer rosé, and Peroni was available on ice. A custom Absolut Elyx Bloody Mary cart offered the best ingredients we have ever seen go into the making of a cocktail, and amazing bands By Lilla were available to tie up Swim Week pony tails to help beat the humidity. A HavaianasXDylan’s Candy Bar collaboration offered up amazing flip flops and a pop up Dylan’s Candy Bar was on site for guests to grab a sweet treat. If that wasn’t enough, New Beauty Magazine provided their sought after Test Tubes for VIP’s. We overheard guests saying more than once over the course of the two days that this was #thebestdayever.

Miami Beach, FL – July 17, 2015 – DIJANA Swim by Dijana Molina made its official launch during Miami Swim Week with a fashion show attended by 400 VIPs at Bass Museum of Art.. The dramatic fashion show, held with models sashaying down the museum’s tri-level ramp, began with an Indian-inspired interpretive dancer performance, setting the tone for the ethereal fashions to come.  Inspired by the values of symmetry, purity, sensuality, renewal and beauty, DIJANA Swim showcased bikinis, maillots and beachwear in a summer palette of pink, orange, yellow, purple, orange and green hues – in solid prints as well as graceful lotus and bamboo prints designed by Dijana – in Italian fabrics. Rompers, flowing Greek-inspired jumpers, and long dresses – as well as the swimwear — were elegantly finished with custom gold hardware. An artistic highlight of the show was a golden bamboo forest installation, which also served as a backdrop for the summer ’16 look book images.
