Miami Beach, FL – July 17, 2015 – Fashion and philanthropy joined forces once again as Style Saves hosted their fifth annual fashion show fundraiser. Kicking off swim week, sold-out event at the Miami Beach EDITION featured host Louis Aguirre of The Insider along with top models that showcased styles from Calypso St. Barth, Kai Lani and ishine365 as well as accessories by GOET, Jaimie Nicole and Regine Chevallier for a cause. Joey Maalouf and Cara Santana’s joint venture, The Glam App, was on hand offering styling on demand including hair and makeup for models and guests. Guests enjoyed an open bar featuring Peroni, Perrier and Vita Coco while acclaimed fashionable DJ Mia Moretti spun some killer sounds. Hitting the runway to “build confidence through clothes,” all proceeds from the event were donated to support the Style Saves mission to raise funds for underprivileged students. Style Saves works with retailers, designers and boutiques to provide students with the fundamental necessities they need to begin the school year including uniforms, school supplies and prescription eyewear.

Miami Beach, FL – July 30, 2015 – You’ve just finished your morning run on the beach and your body is craving the ultimate pick-me-up. Where do you find such a boost in a city filled with overly strong Cuban espresso shots? The answer: Miami’s fresh to def, jugofresh. Jugofresh the ultimate go-to spot for cold-pressed juices, smoothies, vegan foods and good vibrations. Everything is 100% organic and made fresh daily with the highest integrity. Jugofresh has taken an innovative culinary approach to the grab-and-go offerings with their chefs delivering an ever-evolving menu that highlights the freshest ingredients available. There’s a million reasons why jugofresh keeps us coming back, and now their latest venture truly seals the deal. The man behind Miami’s freshest obsession, along with his trusty chef are officially luring in foodies from all over to their latest pop-up, R+D.

1.1-DSC_9397

Miami has always been a city about surface beauty and beach bodies, so internal wellness and having people allow food to become one’s medicine is a high priority for me.

Matthew Sherman, Owner of jugofresh

1.2-DSC_9377

What started off as a favor to some friends and clients while in graduate school, quickly turned into a full-time job for jugofresh owner Matt Sherman. “I had no plans to open up a juice bar, I simply started making juice for my private clients out of my home and eventually it took off,” says Sherman. “I realized people wanted it more as a lifestyle.” With the lack of juice spots around town, Sherman seized the opportunity and opened up the first jugofresh in Sunset Harbour. Sherman officially launched jugofresh in may 2012 as a cold-pressed juice company. His main mission has been to raise the vibration of Miami by making clean eating fun, one jugofresh at a time. Now, the company has expanded into various health food options, catering to thousands of clients daily in South Florida.

1.5-3-DSC_9369

“Miami has always been a city about surface beauty and beach bodies, so internal wellness and having people allow food to become one’s medicine is a high priority for me,” says Sherman. His main goal is all about maximizing health for their customers in terms of their product. Jugofresh truly strives to ensure their consumers are not only getting a healthy option to eat or drink, but becoming more mindful of their health and lifestyle as a whole.

2.5--DSC_9338

R+D is not your typical grab-and-go stop you usually experience at jugofresh. Starting today, the pop-up, will be taking over jugofresh and transforming it into a full service dining experience filled with beautifully plated plant-based dishes, organic wine and, yes what we’ve all been waiting for, cocktails!

3-DSC_9049

Our main goal with R+D is to get the freshest product possible and transform it into a memorable dining experience.

Chef Darren “Paco” Laszlo

Chef Darren “Paco” Laszlo has curated an extensive menu filled with the freshest, organic eats that is guaranteed to leave any consumer wanting more. Chris Devlin has joined “Paco” in adding his touch to the cocktail selection. The two of them are spearheading this amazing project and showing Miami what clean eating is all about. “Most people who open raw/vegan restaurants in Miami have no culinary experience, so having Chef Darren “Paco” Laszlo with such a strong culinary background makes a huge difference,” exclaims Sherman.

5-DSC_5564

6-Pamela Wasabi11

To ensure customers are getting top-notch food, R+D will only be sourcing their products from the best of the best including many of the local organic farms in homestead; Happiness Farms, Verde Farms, and Paradise Farms to name a few. R+D’s main goal is to get the freshest product possible and transform it into a memorable dining experience. “Starting off with superior product is the key to great cooking,” says Chef Darren “Paco” Laszlo. Unfortunately, many people will automatically associate “healthy” with having a bland flavor but if it’s done right that is simply not the case. “We love flavor and believe in seasoning food,” exclaims Chef Darren “Paco” Laszlo, “flavor is our friend.”

7-Pamela Wasabi12

R+D’s savory menu items will change every couple weeks. “The menu items will evolve as we experiment with different flavor profiles and techniques,” says Chef Darren “Paco” Laszlo. R+D will be open Thursday through Sunday, with brunch and dinner available for all to enjoy. Ready to dive in? Email reservations@jugofresh.com to ensure you’ve snagged a table.

With our mouths watering thinking about all the savory drinks and eats you can find at jugofresh as well as R+D, we can’t help but wonder what’s next for Sherman, Chef Darren “Paco” Laszlo and they’re healthy living. “Hopefully healthy food becomes as popular as coffee and cheeseburgers, and you can see those options spread around the country,” exclaims Sherman. “If people can have easier access to the options, the world can become a healthier place.”

Miami, FL – August 1, 2015 – The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts’ AileyCamp Miami program’s final performance culminated this past weekend. This is a unique free, six-week, full-scholarship summer day camp, which uses dance as a vehicle for developing self-esteem, self-discipline, creative expression and critical thinking skills. Now in its seventh year, AileyCamp Miami is used as the model for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s camps around the country. It is the only AileyCamp program that takes place within the main facility of a performing arts center. Campers take classes, practice and perform on the same stages as world-class dancers, musicians and actors. AileyCamp Miami is also entirely financed and run by the Arsht Center. Each year the 100 at-risk campers are bused to the Arsht Center from communities all over Miami-Dade County– provided breakfast, lunch, backpacks, dance clothing and T-shirts – all at no charge.

Miami Beach, FL – August 9, 2015 – Art enthusiasts came out to celebrate the Wolfsonian-FIU’s latest exhibition, Women, Art, and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise, with a Newcomb Pottery Brunch. Guests were welcomed by Catherine Hagaman Edwards, President of Newcomb Alumnae Association for a delicious brunch and discussion with Monica Ramirez-Montagut, director of Newcomb Art MuseumWomen, Art, and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise is the largest presentation of Newcomb arts and crafts in more than twenty-five years. One of the most significant American art potteries of the twentieth century, Newcomb works are a graceful union of form and decoration inspired by the flora and fauna of the Gulf Coast of Louisiana. Each piece is one of a kind—and collectively they create a distinctive Southern art form. Women, Art, and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise showcases a striking collection of Newcomb pottery, metalwork, bookbinding, and textiles with new scholarship to explore the history of the pottery and its importance as a social and artistic experiment.

Miami Beach, FL – August 13, 2015 – Miami trend-setters got their much needed fashion fix with Cecconi’s Fashion for Breakfast series. Moderator Jason Salstein of Capretto guided guests through an intimate conversation with British footwear designer, Theresa Ebagua of Chelsea Paris and Teen Vogue Fashion & Accessories Director, Marina Larroude.

Chelsea Paris is a young luxury footwear label launched in 2011. The brand strikes an elegant balance of feminine modernity and tradition. Heritage and quality are trademarks of the Chelsea Paris brand; the collections are designed by founder Theresa Ebagua in the London studio and expertly handcrafted using traditional methods in Italy. The Chelsea Paris story is inspired by African culture and the Deco era of the 1920s. The result is beautiful shoes that tread an effortless line between on trend desirability and timeless style. World Red Eye seized the opportunity to catch up with footwear maven Theresa Ebagua, who chatted with us about how she got her start, as well as her most memorable moments throughout her career.

Theresa Ebagua, Jason Salstein, & Marina Larroude

WRE: How did you get your start in the footwear industry? Did you always know you wanted to be a footwear designer?

TE: I had a successful career in Computer Science, and finally followed my longstanding passion for shoe design by attending Ars Sutoria in Milan several years ago.

WRE: How did you come up with the name Chelsea Paris?

TE: It is actually named for my two daughters, Chelsea and Paris.

1.4-Theresa Ebagua, Jason Salstein, & Marina Larroude speaking5

1.4a-Theresa Ebagua, Jason Salstein, & Marina Larroude speaking7

WRE: Where do you draw inspiration from?

TE: Much of my inspiration comes from the Art Deco movement, the sights, colors and artifacts of my native Africa, as well as historical French fashion.

WRE: Describe the kind of person who is rocking your shoes?

TE: Someone who balances feminine modernity and tradition and who also has a bit of sex appeal, of course! Beyonce is a big fan which is amazing. Also Cameron Diaz, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Lupita N’yongo have all worn my designs.

Q&A: Somewhere Over the Rainbow with Jessy Nite

1-Jessy Nite20

Jessy Nite

Miami, FL – August 20, 2015 – Somewhere over the rainbow you will find artist Jessy Nite brewing up her latest creation filled with striking colors and good vibrations. Starting her already impressive career in New York, and eventually moving her way down to Miami, Nite’s bright and vibrant personality is clearly seen throughout her multidisciplinary works. Whether its working on her latest mural, or putting extra hours in the studio, Nite uses various mediums to showcase her talents. Nite has exhibited internationally; her works are part of several prestigious art collections around the world.  She has presented fine art projects in Miami, Sao Paulo, London, Vienna, Zurich, Bangkok, Provincetown, Newport and Dallas; she has worked commercially for brands such as Fiat, Back, Absolut, Redbull, I Am Other and The Fader, and musicians Best Coast, LCD Soundsystem, Sleighbells, Soul Clap and Mayday.

World Red Eye spent some time with Nite, who let us into her colorful world and gave us a deeper look into her career as a multidisciplinary artist and graphic designer.

1.5-DSCA2747

Jessy Nite

WRE: Was making art something you knew you wanted to do at an early age? Or did it just come naturally?

JN: I have always been drawn to the arts, and while the interest may have come naturally, it’s something I work very hard at. I have always studied art in school, but never thought of it as a profession until I grew older.

WRE: Tell us about how you got your start?

JN: It’s hard to say. I was always creating new work and trying to put it out there, which is really what it takes. I really busted my ass and eventually gained the momentum I needed to put my work out there to more people and places. I am still busting my ass to keep the momentum going because I know what happens if you let it stop.

2-Jessy Nite23

I love anything that requires construction because the feelings related to the physicality of the process are really freeing.

Jessy Nite

3-DSCA2839

WRE: You’ve just completed a new mural outside of the Electric Pickle. Can you tell us about it?

JN: The mural on the Pickle was commissioned by Becks Beer for a campaign. I wanted to do something clean so it would stand out, and also be something that was just a color composition so it would be totally open to the viewers’s own feelings and vibrations. It’s a busy street and a lot of people go past it… all different people from all walks of life. I wanted to make something that everyone can interact with in their own way.

4-DSCA2908

WRE: Utilizing lots of bright colors, candy-like and jewel geometric patterns seems to be a theme throughout your work, what do these elements represent to you?

JN: I like work that challenges the viewer, both conceptually and visually. A lot of my work is constructed and three dimensional (installations, sculptures, assemblages, etc), interacting with the viewer. I try to use similar concepts in two dimensional projects such as paintings and murals. A case could be made that murals are three dimensional work because they are using the building as visual leverage, which is why I always try to do more than one wall, it’s more architectural when you consider the entire structure into your concept… or maybe thats just me dorking out.

5-DSCA2504

Jessy Nite

WRE: What is your favorite medium to work with? Why?

JN: I really don’t have a favorite. I work with so many different mediums and that’s important to me because I like to show breadth and the ability to spread my concept around. I love anything that requires construction because the feelings related to the physicality of the process are really freeing.

6-DSCA3071

7-DSCA3056

WRE: How long does it usually take you to come up with new ideas? Where do you draw inspiration from?

JN: I am constantly coming up with new concepts and continuing to perfect others. I have volumes of notebooks and folders, full of ideas I am waiting to put out into the world. Of course, I have to wait for the right fiscal opportunities to unleash them but they’re there, marinating and gestating.

11-DSCA2447

Jessy Nite

WRE: What is a typical day in the studio?

JN: I work on so many different things at once so it always varies.  I could be working on giant, 7×7 ft sculpture commission Monday through Wednesday, sorting, building and framing fifteen small collages from vintage Italian tiles Thursday through Friday, all while painting a mural overnight to avoid the sun. Those are all real scenarios and real timelines.

WREWhen are you at your most creative?

JN: I am major early bird! By 8:00 am I am already in the studio cranking, and by around 2:00 pm I am ready to take a break and chill. Those are definitely my peak hours. I always put in a round two from about 5:00 pm t0 10:00 pm, but mornings are my favorite time to be functional.

12-DSCA2386

13-DSCA2405

WRE: Who are some artists you look up to and admire?

JN: I admire artists who are my friends because I get to really watch them grow. I have the most respect for Jen Stark! She’s no doubt on her way to the very top, which was so obvious from the beginning because her work is amazing and she’s a special kind of human that can do it.

13.5-Jessy Nite

Jessy Nite

14-DSCA2353

WRE: Can you tell us more about the pill “dope” piece?

JN: “Dope” is part of an ongoing series of pill assemblages. They all use my own typography that I create using traditional brush techniques, and are made from real pills. The sayings usually reference drug use and dependency in both the party drug and prescription drug sense. I’ve done others that say “Lean On Me,” “High Roller,” “Roll Model,” “Feels Like Home” and more.

15-DSCA2355

WRE: What can we find you doing when you are not creating new work?

JN: Haha oh man, I will let you know when I stop making new work. I have a few shows to get ready for so lets revisit this questions in the spring.

WRE: Where are some of your favorite places to hangout around town?

JN: I love Casa Claridge’s in the Faena Arts area it has great vibes, South Pointe Park on South Beach used to be my backyard so I still find myself there on a regular basis; it’s also the best place to ride bikes and take out of towners. Also, I really love going to PAMM’s back deck, you almost don’t even have to go inside to see the work because it’s so beautiful and chill outside.

16-Jessy Nite1

Jessy Nite

16.5-Jessy Nite6

WRE: Any exciting things planned for the future in regards to your work?

JN: I have a few local things happening at the end of the year: I am about to start the exterior of the new Redbull Offices in Wynwood, I have a show in Miami this Fall, some exciting things in between, and of course Basel. Also, my first solo on the West Coast will be in Seattle this February. Follow me on Instagram @jessynite for all the info on that and more!

Miami Beach, FL – August 26, 2015 – Without a doubt Miami is the Magic City. There is a unique alchemy of cigar smoke, the Everglades, luxury condos, sunshine, contemporary art, hurricanes, nightclubs, Tequestas, celebrities, and cordaditos that has created such a vibrant city. PechaKucha Miami in collaboration with Fordistas featured six local luminaries who brought to life some of the city’s lesser known stories in short presentations less than six minutes each. Luminaries included Joel Fernandez, Alejandro Mendoza, Melissa Meruelo, James Anderson, Rosemarie Romero, and Louise Irvine. The Fordistas program, powered by South Florida Ford, is a platform for emerging arts and culture focused on nurturing and elevating homegrown talent in our community.   After the presentations at Deauville, guests enjoyed beats provided by DJ Andie Sweetswirl  as well as a special installation by Giants in the City.

1-WRE_5082

Miami, FL – September 3, 2015 – The PARAMOUNT development and sales teams got ready to rubble, hosting a demolition event for the highly-anticipated PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter, the first and only residential tower currently for sale within the 30-acre Miami Worldcenter site. The event commemorated the demolition of the last remaining building on the Miami Worldcenter site, that of the former Mekka nightclub. Currently comprised of old warehouses and empty lots, the demolition paves the way for the start of construction of The Mall at Miami Worldcenter and PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter later this fall. The demolition event was attended by PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter VIPs, including purchasers, top area real estate professionals, and esteemed members from the design and development community, who joined developer Daniel Kodsi as he ceremonially took a sledgehammer to the building before a track hoe performed the official demolition. Following the ceremony, guests gathered at the exceptionally-designed PARAMOUNT Miami Worldcenter sales gallery for a brunch reception that celebrated the tremendous sales success of the 60-story condominium tower and the first component of Miami Worldcenter becoming a reality.

Miami, FL – September 2, 2015 – Toys for Boys collaborated with multiple brands for yet another sensory evening of epic proportions; giving their guests reasons to shop while they partied. Whether you were looking for furniture, jewelry or a hyper sports car, the options were limitless. The venue was set up to have the guests feel at home, with furniture specially curated by Uzca designs, guests could sit on couches while “ooing and ahhing” over the one of seven, worldwide, Lykan Hyper Sport Car. Guests enjoyed the features of the $3.5 million dollar car such as the first of its kind, holographic radio station. Yummy Italian bites were served by Midtowns, Riviera restaurant as the crowd mingled over Zacapa Rum. As most parties in Miami, the bar was always packed, especially as most couldn’t help themselves from refilling the delicious old-fashioned style cocktail that featured chocolate bitters and perhaps, even made some expensive mistakes as they shopped jewels and watches by Vault’s pop up shop. Notables attendees included french fashion designer Fabrice Tardieu, Vault Owner Yakir Shoushan, The Billionaire’s Club, Titant Black creator Ben Waite, photographer Greg Lotus and of course the fabulous Maria Elena Uzca from Uzca Furnishings.

Q&A: Farah Abassi Debuts “The Art of Aroma” at Thompson Miami Beach

Farah Abassi

Miami Beach, FL – September 9, 2015 – It was all about the power of the scent at the Thompson Miami Beach as guests celebrated the launch of “The Art of Aroma,” the latest read from Aroma360 founder Farah Abassi. Aroma360, a scent marketing company based in South Florida, is transforming spaces to create luxurious havens for all customers, from homeowners to business owners to global consumers. Aroma360’s fragrances – sold in the following categories: Beauty Sleep, Focus, Fresh, Home Sweet Home, Inner Peace, Luxe, Shopaholic, Social Butterfly, Spa Collection and True Romance – encourage a myriad of moods and behavior, from helping with relaxation to improving concentration and mental clarity to evoking romantic moods and sensations. The fragrances, which can also be personalized, also offer a range of healing properties that help to harmonize the mind, body and soul.

As an Aromachologist, Abassi understands the strong influence of odors on human behavior. Since scent is such a unique and individual experience, Aromachology is not a one-size-fits-all science, rather it’s a response to scent that is innately buried in each individual’s brain. She uses her vast knowledge of the science to individually tailor specific oils to fit the different needs of her clients. World Red Eye seized the opportunity to catch up with Abassi, who gave us an inside scoop into how she got started in the world of aromatherapy, as well as some insight into all the benefits of the practice.

2-Farah Abassi6_new

Farah Abassi

WRE: How did you get into the Aroma business?

FA: When I was 15, I got a job in a small Aromatherapy shop in Vancouver, BC, where I grew up.  The woman who owned the shop was incredible, and I fell in love with scents and their uses, and learned a great deal from her. I  continued to have an interest in Aromatherapy as I went through school, and after completing a University degree, I went to Thailand and studied Yoga and some other Eastern Disciplines and learned more and more about the affects of scent on human behavior. I then moved to South Florida and with the encouragement of my partner, decided to do this full-time. Aroma360 was born, and I could not be prouder.

WRE: Tell us about your latest book, “The Art of Aroma”?

FA: I am very proud of my first book, The Art of Aroma. In writing and researching it, I wanted to show people not only how accessible and easy scenting can be, but also the tremendous benefits and implications scent can have on so many aspects. I tried to stress the science behind scents, as scents are so much more then a good smell. Scent affects us in so many ways from evoking memories, affecting our mood, to influencing buying behavior.

WRE: How much of an influence do scents have on our behavior?

FA: Scents hold so much influence our behavior. Research shows that you are 100 times more likely to recall something based on a “scent memory” over a visual one. This is due to the fact that our sense of smell is the only one of our five senses that bypasses the cognitive core of our brain, and goes directly to our limbic system, which is the most primitive part of our brain. Basically, this means we smell before we think.

WRE: What conditions is aromatherapy used for?

FA: Aromatherapy can help a myriad of conditions, from insomnia, to anxiety, depression and ADHD. I have seen incredible results through using scents for their therapeutic values. Using essential oils has too many health benefits to list here. They are proven to be safe and effective in treating so many different illnesses and issues, when used correctly.

WRE: What is the biggest misconception about aromatherapy?

FA: The biggest misconception is that there isn’t real science behind how scent affects our behavior. The science is incredible, and substantiated by so many different studies and academic research through Universities. I am a trained “Aromachologist,” which is a person who studies how science affects mood, behavior, decisions, and just about everything in our day to day life.

WRE: What is the most surprising thing about aromatherapy that many may not know?

FA: I think that many people would be surprised by the extent of applications that scenting can apply to. I also think that most people aren’t aware of the level of scenting that goes on in so many commercial brands and stores. For example, one of the major department stores “scentscapes” by  infusing the scent of baby powder in the children’s department, coconut in the swimwear department and lilac in the lingerie section.

WRE: How does one get started using aromatherapy in their life?

FA: It really is best to read up on what one wishes to achieve through scent. Then to make sure that they use only the best therapeutic grade essential oils. Many people heat essential oils, which is not the right way to diffuse them. Introducing heat to essential oils destroys the therapeutic properties in the oils. Aroma360 has a line of cold air diffusers, which protects the oils, and is the safest, most effective way to disperse scent in the air.

WREAnything else that someone just getting interested in aromatherapy should know?

FA: I recommend that they do their research. What are they trying to achieve? Where do they want to scent? What is the intended benefit that they wish to have? Scenting is never a One-Size-Fits-All process. You need to take into account other things as well, such as lighting, décor, size of the space, etc, to effectively scent.

WRE: Where do you see the aromatherapy practice 10 years from now?

FA: It is becoming more and more mainstream. People are becoming more conscious about their health and paying more attention to things such as the ingredients in people’s food, their cleaning products etc. There is an increasing demand for natural products and essential oils offer a much healthier alternative to plug-ins and chemical-laden aerosols. Furthermore, the Scent Marketing Institute predicts that the industry is growing at 10% per year, and that by 2020, it will be a $10 billion dollar industry.
