Jamie’s Rescue

Miami, FL – September 16, 2015 – They are there to welcome you with a smile after you’ve had a long day, they are there to cuddle alongside you when you sleep, and they listen to you without talking back, let’s just face it: there is nothing better than good old puppy love. For Jamie Robinson, her mission has always been to give furry friends in need a loving home. With a lack of loving shelters for animals in need to go, along her unwavering passion and determination, Robinson finally secured a home for stray dogs and puppies. Jamie’s Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3) founded in 2007 that successfully placed thousands dogs and puppies in safe, loving homes.

2-Jamie Robinson5-Edit

Jamie Robinson

Saving one rescue dog might not change the world, but it will change the world for that one rescue dog.

Jamie Robinson, Founder of Jamie's Rescue

4-Jamie Robinson8-Edit

Before she opened up her doors to her furry friends, Jamie Robinson was working as a White House photographer and videographer for CBS during the Carter administration. She was the first female videographer for the White House, traveling the world with the President on Air Force One. She is also an accomplished artist, exhibiting her work in some of the best galleries in this country and in Europe. Finally settling back hometown here in Miami, she traveled the city photographing interesting people for her Tropical Wildlife page in the Miami Herald. Although photography was her passion, she found there was something else that was also a major force behind her drive.

5-WRE_5381-Edit

Robinson would constantly find herself bringing stray dogs home since there were such little options of places to take them and promised herself that one day she would open her own rescue for dogs and puppies found on the streets. Unfortunately, what many people are not aware of is that The Humane Society will only take in dogs with owners that are unable to keep them. That means the only option for street dogs is animal services, which is a kill shelter. The opportunity finally arose where she was able to close her studio and pursue her lifelong dream of saving animals lives.

6-WRE_5725-Edit

Robinson sees running this rescue as her biggest accomplishment. She gets up at 5:00 am every morning to take care of the many litters of puppies and dogs that are found in boxes and dumpsters all over the city of Miami. She nurtures them back to health and puts them up for adoption. This is a total labor of love. What sets Jamie’s Rescue apart from other animal shelters is that the shelter is completely cage free. The rescue has an acre of land in which the dogs and puppies are able to run free, along with doggie doors that lead into the main house. All of the animals are also fed organic food.

7-WRE_5252-Edit

8-WRE_5251-Edit

9-WRE_5477-Edit

Robinson has dedicated her later years to saving dogs which she credit to saving her own life in a time of personal struggle. She believes dogs are god sent and should be treated as family members. Robinson ensures the homes in which she places these dogs have the same feelings. She is a one woman show running everything from the care of the dogs, to the adoption interview process, to the follow ups, and the list goes on and on. She does the work of twenty people and she does it with love. Robinson’s entire day is focused around vet visits, dropping off and picking up neutered puppies, and appointments with potential new homes. Her life is committed to helping these animals.

10-WRE_5533-Edit

11-WRE_5326-Edit

For those who are wanting to adopt a furry friend, the first step in the process is submitting the application. Robinson will then call around and do an extensive interview with potential owners to ensure these rescue dogs are going to a loving, caring home. Robinson also will set up an appointment with the person or family who is adopting to make sure everyone is on the same page and there is a mutual connection between owner and dog. Every puppy and dog will receive their shots, get spayed, neutered and microchipped. Adoption fees can range anywhere between $150 and $350.

13.5-DSC_9036-Edit

As one could expect, the biggest hurdle Jamie’s Rescue currently faces is the lack of funding. Since these animals are being rescued off the street, some will require a lot of vetting before they are adoption ready which can get very expensive. A common problem with many pups being rescued is Parvo, a virus that affects a lot of street puppies as the mothers of these puppies are not vaccinated. Parvo can be very pricey to treat and typically runs around one thousand dollars per puppy. The adoption fees rarely cover the expense Jamie’s Rescue puts into making a puppy healthy again.

Jamie’s Rescue does an excellent job of joining together with various organizations within the community to spread the word about dog and puppy adoption. Bringing along her pups to these various events never fails to be a sure way to melt potential owners hearts. World Red Eye recently joined Robinson and the rest of the Jamie’s Rescue crew at “Barks, Brews, & BBQ” fundraiser with new restaurant, Ms. Cheezious. While enjoying some brews and bites, attendees seized the opportunity to bond with the adorable canines and the day event ended up with a few adoptions. These events are a perfect way to not only spread the word about the organization, but also raise funds to keep these pups healthy and happy.

Coral Gables, FL – September 23, 2015 – Welcome to Audi TT Drive 305 – a digital partnership between The Collection and World Red Eye where insiders can get an up close and personal look at the all-new 2016 Audi TT through the eyes of three of Miami’s own – Visual Artist Typoe, Designer Fabrice Tardieu and Fashion Blogger Nikole Powers. Over the next few weeks you’ll get to see Miami through their eyes behind the wheel of the newly-arrived 2016 Audi TT. So, buckle up friends and enjoy the ride…

2-WRE_5805-Edit

In so many ways, it’s really all connected. How an Audi vehicle is engineered and designed isn’t simply a matter of physics or architecture, it’s a systematic compilation of disparate disciplines and ideas, forged into something iconic, sophisticated and powerful. What you feel behind the wheel is, in so many ways, a product of the knowledge and imagination of human history. The principles of Newtonian laws, sure—but also the grace of choreography, time-honored artisanal craftsmanship and the connectivity of modern life. The end result of these inspirations is your Audi—a thing meaningful, intuitive and strong. We employ the sum of our skills and understanding to reflect something that goes deeper than our machines.

2.5--WRE_5719-Edit

You’ll find more here than just beautifully sculpted sheet metal and timeless design elements paying tribute to the iconic look of the previous two TT generations. When you look deeper, you’ll find a vehicle that not only stays true to form visually, but is also imbued with our legendary racing DNA—a statement that has never been more true than it is for the 2016 TT — and delivers dynamic performance you can feel as never before. Genuine sports cars in every sense of the word, the Audi TT Coupe and Roadster captivate from the start with a stunning design, and then deliver on their aggressive looks with an intimate connection to the road and nearly instantaneous response. And when you consider the attention to detail and luxurious touches found throughout this vehicle, it all becomes even more enticing. Add to that one of the most visually stunning features available anywhere, the brilliant Audi virtual cockpit, and you’ll come to a quick realization—this kind of performance can’t be taught. It is pure instinct.

2.6-WRE_5538-Edit

With an interior design that focuses solely on the driver, don’t be surprised if your passenger ends up starved for attention. A completely redesigned, driver-oriented cockpit, with its wing-inspired dashboard design and beautifully simplified air outlets with integrated controls, welcomes you as you enter, while unmistakable Audi fit and finish helps you settle in. From a low seating position, which helps bring you closer to the road, revel in the high performance leather/Alcantara® or available luxurious Fine Nappa leather seating surfaces, which offer support in the right places. Then notice how the distinctive Aluminum Drift inlays give it a subtle, modern feel, and a three-spoke flat-bottom multifunction sport steering wheel with shift paddles helps keep you in charge of the driving excitement.

2.7-WRE_5572-Edit

Helping to provide a touch of warmth when the weather cools down, the neck-level heating system, available in the TT Roadster, features vents that blow warm air directly onto your neck and shoulders. Finely crafted leather surfaces greet you from nearly every interior angle, including from the available S sport seats with diamond stitching that feature color choices that range from Black to Rock Gray to Palomino Brown and stitched leather covered armrests.

2.8-6-WRE_5711-Edit

Designed with special noise-dampening properties that make it quieter than ever before, the TT Roadster offers a top constructed of canvas, lightweight aluminum and steel. It opens or closes in just 10 seconds with a simple push of a button and can be operated at speeds under 31 mph.

3.2-WRE_5628-Edit

The dramatic design of the TT is further enhanced by the brilliance of full LED headlights, featuring a three-dimensional design and LED taillights with dynamic turn signals that distinguish this vehicle from any other on the road.

3.3-WRE_5612-Edit

3.5-WRE_5681-Edit

Its true intentions are on full display in muscular yet elegant fashion. Just take the dual exhaust, the distinct LED taillight with integrated third brake light that runs below the spoiler, and the low, wide stance as proof.

4-WRE_5597-Edit

The Audi TT also boasts 18″ 5-twin-spoke dynamic design wheels with 245/40 summer performance tires.

5-WRE_5504-Edit

6-WRE_5533-Edit

A delight for the eyes and ears, the Bang & Olufsen® Sound System impresses with almost true-to-life surround sound reproduction and visually captivates with illuminated woofers in the front doors. Powered by a 680-watt, 14-channel amplifier, the system features ten high-performance loudspeakers and two woofers for finely balanced sound with natural tone.

7-WRE_5543-Edit

The available intelligent MMI® system offers a wealth of easily accessible information with a unique twist, or, technically, a touch. Considered a revolution in intelligent simplicity, MMI touch with handwriting recognition is a technology that helps give you the ability to give commands and retrieve media with just a few simple strokes on the pad. You’ll quickly have access to information such as music files, contact information and destinations. The possibilities are even bigger when you input to available Audi connect®, an innovative infotainment system infused with the power of Google™ technology. With this kind of access, you could say there is no greater stage.

8-DSC_1351-Edit

Audi believes that you should be the ultimate master of your road-going domain. That’s why they created the Audi drive select system. It gives you the ability to adjust the vehicle’s steering, throttle response, and transmission shift characteristics and for the first time ever, the quattro® all-wheel drive system with the utmost of ease.

9-WRE_5564-Edit

A revolution in all-wheel-drive technology when first introduced, quattro® has only improved over the decades. Now the latest iteration, specifically designed for the TT, takes the advantages of allwheel drive to new heights. Unlike previous TT models with all-wheel drive, this quattro® system has no set torque distribution. That means, no matter if you are accelerating out of a corner or passing on a straightaway, the system will almost always distribute the right amount of torque to help provide maximum grip and control. When combined with torque vectoring, which works within quattro®, utilizing ESC and ABS to help sense traction loss from the inside cornering wheels, the entire system sets a new bar for Audi performance.

10-WRE_5593-Edit

The Audi virtual cockpit is set to revolutionize the way you receive and interpret vital information. Allowing you to quickly transition from a traditional instrument cluster to a panoramic navigational setting, or to a combination of both, it has never been easier to interact with your Audi or more thrilling to stay in the know.

11-WRE_5546-Edit

12-WRE_5553-Edit

13-WRE_5616-Edit

Perhaps its most dramatic element, the redesigned Singleframe grille makes the TT instantly recognizable. Its lines perfectly meld with the front fascia and combine for a thrilling effect. It should be clear from the revving 2.0-liter TFSI® four-cylinder engine to the confidence-inspiring grip of quattro® all-wheel drive to the performance-enhancing control of Audi drive select, everything engineered for this vehicle is designed to help maximize its performance— and your fun.

Q&A: Daniel Arsham: The Future Was Written at YoungArts

Daniel Arsham

Miami, FL – September 24, 2015 – Multidisciplinary artist Daniel Arsham made his return to Miami—to the National YoungArts Foundation, where he was recognized as a winner in visual arts as a high school student in 1999—with The Future Was Written, a wholly immersive and evolving exhibition, curated by newly appointed Pérez Art Museum Miami Director Franklin Sirmans. Premiering on YoungArts Awareness Day, a nationwide initiative to encourage young artists to pursue a career in the arts, the exhibition’s opening reception celebrated the impact that the organization has made on the lives of thousands of emerging artists. The show’s opening reception was preceded by the first YoungArts salon of the season, sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, featuring Daniel Arsham and Franklin Sirmans (on Skype) in conversation with moderator Claire Breukel, Director and Chief Curator of Y.ES. Following an introduction and brief Q&A with Sirmans, Arsham discussed the evolution of his work, his connection to Miami, and collaborating with legendary Merce Cunningham and Jonah Bokaer. In The Future Was Written, Arsham transforms the YoungArts Gallery into a site of fictional archeology by covering the walls with blackboard paint and peppering the space with nearly 2,000 objects made of chalk. The exhibition will be on display from September 25 through December 11.

The work of Miami-raised, New York-based artist Daniel Arsham combines art, architecture and performance to distort the line between the real and the imagined, calling to question our understanding of structures, space and form. Known for his sculptural work and large-scale paintings, a pivotal moment in Arsham’s career took place in 2004, when legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham asked the artist to create stage designs for his dance company. Since then, Arsham has translated his monochromatic palette and clean aesthetic into several other projects and collaborations, including a series of keyboard sculptures with musician and producer Pharrell Williams; the collaborative and experimental studio Snarkitecture he founded with Alex Mustonen; and the production company Film the Future he founded with director/cinematographer/editor Ben Louis Nicholas and producer Courtney Andrialis.

2-Daniel Arsham6

Daniel Arsham

3-WRE_1242

WRE: How did winning YoungArts in 1999 help your burgeoning career in the art world?

DA: 1999 was the year I graduated High School. I believe any encouragement you can give someone at that age, which YoungArts certainly did for me to pursue a dream working in this field, is helpful.

4-WRE_1272

5-WRE_1270

WRE: How did the idea for this show come about? Did you collaborate closely with Sirmans?

DA: I have known Franklin Sirmans for a couple years now since meeting him at an exhibition I did in Philadelphia. Eventually he got in touch about doing this particular project at YoungArts and we had a discussion about creating a large scale exhibition. The kind of scale that wouldn’t necessarily be seen in one of the galleries that I typically work with. We divided the space into this kind of installation, in some ways collaboration with the audience on the ground floor and and on the upstairs where there are other works of mine that fall into this fictional, archaeological world.

6-WRE_1076

7-WRE_1056

WRE: What should the average gallery goer expect from opening night?

DA: On the ground floor there are thousands of objects that are cast in chalk. All of these objects are taking the form of things from your past and things that you may remember like old phones, cameras, things largely related to communications including facial expressions and hands and gestures. These objects will be used to create drawings and writing on the walls of the space. The direction to the people is to write your impressions of the future using these objects from your past.

8-WRE_1053

8.5-WRE_0993

WRE: What was it like growing up creatively in Miami? Was it oppressive, or did you find opportunities to nurture your talent?

DA: I believe no matter where you grow up, you have to find your own opportunity. I was fortunate to be able to go to magnet schools from elementary school on, and when I returned to Miami after finishing college in New York I opened a space with some friends of mine called “The House.” That sort of proactive quality is something that has helped me a lot and is something that I always encourage other younger artists to do.

9-WRE_1060

10-WRE_1062

WRE: Miami has certainly evolved culturally in the past 10 years, how has the city improved, and what are the areas still left for progress?

DA: I think that Miami is an amazing place for pursuing an early career as an artist. There’s a lot of support and interest in what young artists are making here. With that being said, I did find it difficult to reach a more international audience which is part of the reason why I moved back to New York. I think that Miami has expanded heavily and one of the things that we see frequently is that artists continuously get pushed to the fringes of neighborhoods. “The House,” the space I spoke about before, was on 25th and Biscayne which is now a condominium. There’s a reason why artists are leaving, because they cant afford the rent in those areas. I don’t think Miami has done a particularly good job of keeping space for artists. Of course there’s organizations like Cannonball and Locust Projects that are trying to do that so it’s not an entirely lost cause, but I always try to encourage people that I know here to support local artists and do as much as they can for them.

Miami, FL – October 8, 2015 – Armand de Brignac Champagne introduced Miami to its full collection of luxury champagnes, including their two newest varietals, Blanc de Noirs and Demi Sec, at a private dinner at Seaspice. Guests were ushered to the restaurant’s intimate private dining room “The Modern Garden” and greeted with a glass of the collection’s signature cuvee, Armand de Brignac Brut Gold, along with passed canapes. After the guests were seated for their three course dinner, where Armand de Brignac CMO Bernadette Knight spoke of the background and history of the Armand de Brignac collection, as well as an overview of the tastings for the evening. She was joined by Jason Siedel, Regional Director of the brand. After a toast to the champagne tastings ahead, dinner began, with each Armand de Brignac varietal expertly paired with a select menu offering from Chef Benjamin Goldman.
